  • Use ice packs to reduce swelling, which typically peaks the day after surgery.
  • Plan to rest at home, avoiding physical activity. Refrain from rinsing vigorously, spitting, or using straws. Stay hydrated and stick to soft, protein-rich foods like yogurt and soup.

• Days 3-4:
  • Swelling may peak, but throbbing will subside into general soreness. 
  • Limited jaw opening is normal and temporary.

  • Continue eating soft, nourishing foods and avoid strenuous activities or bending.

• Days 5-7:

  • Many patients feel ready to resume normal activities, including exercise, and transition to a heartier diet. 
  • Sutures will dissolve naturally; it’s normal to see small pieces during rinsing.
