Tooth loss affects individuals in profound ways. It can cause social withdrawal and erosion of self-confidence. It can also affect one’s nutrition and result in the reduction of jawbone density. At Innovative Implant and Oral Surgery, we specialize in providing solutions for tooth loss, including All-On-4 in Langhorne, PA. With these dental implants, you can enjoy the full function and beauty of natural-looking teeth.
Enjoy the many benefits of dental implants
When patients are facing tooth loss, dentures are often one of the first solutions considered. Unfortunately, patients often find themselves dissatisfied with dentures due to their impermanence and inconvenience. Instead, dental implants tend to be the preferred choice for the following reasons:
- At a glance, dental implants are indistinguishable from natural teeth. They are beautiful replacements that feel and look perfectly normal.
- Dental implants are anchored into the jawbone. Unlike dentures, they’ll never slip, and you can speak and chew without worry.
- You’ll care for dental implants just like you would your natural teeth; no special steps are required.
In addition, dental implants offer superior health benefits. With natural teeth, the jawbone is continually stimulated to produce new bone matter each time force is exerted through chewing. After experiencing tooth loss, patients lose the benefit of this natural stimulation. This results in loss of density in the jawbone. Since dental implants are anchored within the jaw, they mimic the effects of natural teeth. This preserves jawbone mass.
A look at the All-On-4 technique
At Innovative Implant and Oral Surgery, we’re pleased to offer the All-On-4 dental implant technique to our patients. Not only is it beneficial for your health, but it also allows you to enjoy your new teeth the same day of your procedure. To fully understand the All-On-4 technique, it’s helpful first to have a basic understanding of the implants themselves.
A dental implant consists of a titanium post, which is completely submerged in the jawbone. The post is topped by an abutment, which is a connecting piece. The abutment secures the crown to the implant post. The crown is the white part that is visible above the gum line. It looks exactly like a natural tooth.
Oral surgeons can place dental implants one at a time to replace one or more missing teeth. However, if you have an entire arch of missing teeth (upper or lower), there is no need to get one implant placed per missing tooth. This would require extensive surgery and cause more discomfort. Instead, the All-On-4 technique allows surgeons to place just four implants along the arch. Then, the surgeon will attach a temporary prosthesis, which will be anchored directly to these four implants. This allows you to walk out of the office and immediately enjoy the benefits of your new smile.
After that first procedure, it will take a few months (between three and six) for your jawbone to fuse to the implants. After this point, you’ll return to the office for one quick, nonsurgical appointment to replace the temporary prosthesis with a permanent one.
